Now that 2020 is here, we are in full swing for celebrating the Malagasy Bible’s 185th
Anniversary, as one of the very first translated Bible versions in Africa. Alongside this
historic event, the Malagasy Bible Society (MBS) will celebrate 55 years of existence.
So, on 29th January 2020, the members of the Society’s Board of Directors and
Executive Office have called for representatives of Christian organisations to partake in
a Breakfast Meeting entitled “Agape”, where the activities planned around the setting of
these celebrations were presented.
Established on 21st June 1965, the Malagasy Bible Society was later recognised as a
member of the United Bible Societies in 1972. Since having gone through a financial
and organisational crisis in 2015, the MBS has revamped and this season of celebration
testifies to the Lord’s grace and faithfulness toward this working ministry. “God’s Word,
reviving the soul…”, and such is the guiding theme of our celebration- for God is living, His
word is living and it revives us. With this outlook in mind, the MBS is challenging every
Christian to read the entire Bible. A reading plan has been designed to aid those
wanting to participate in this challenge. The MBS is also challenged secondly with the
redevelopment of its very own Bible House. There are plans for us to make an
investment in order to guarantee financial empowerment for our association.
Meanwhile, the Malagasy Bible Society is making an appeal to all those wishing to
support this redevelopment project, as well. With all that was shared during January
29th’s breakfast gathering of Christian leaders, beginning the year in reflection and
thanksgiving, we praise God for you, your support and everything accomplished thus far
in this great work.
The MBS has a vision and an aim to lead all Malagasy people to know Christ, by way of
the Holy Scriptures. Its work is centered around four (4) main missions: (1) Translating
the Word of God into languages the people can understand; (2) Making God’s Word
available in formats that meet the needs of each individual; (3) Distributing the Word of
God at a friendly cost; (4) Facilitating meditation on and the use of the Holy Scriptures.
